White-crowned sparrow

I was watching the gulls fly over the water near Canada Place when suddenly, this little fellow landed on the ground in front of me. Impressive knee flexion! (I think he was preparing to hop forward.)

    1. I think the cocked head and partially open beak says “You got seeds lady?” :-).

  2. White-crowned Sparrows are one of my favorites! My son tells me that they might split the various subspecies into their own distinct species.

    1. I don’t see them very often but the pattern on their heads is definitely a cute touch. Just looked at a National Geographic article that said there are 3 subspecies of this sparrow, with small colour variations. The drawings are very nice!
